We distinguish catalogue facts from editorial suggestions. Museum sources supply dates, attributions, materials, dimensions and collection identifiers. Our comparison prompts explain how a reader can use those facts without turning a resemblance into an unsupported identification.
Attribution and uncertainty
We preserve approximate dates, date ranges and attribution qualifiers. A maker named in a record may be responsible for only one component. Where the available record omits a fact, we say so rather than supplying a plausible detail. Source records can change; the museum record remains the primary reference.
Images and rights
Museum illustrations used in the launch catalogue are identified as public domain in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection data. Captions retain the institution and accession number. The Met Open Access policy explains the reuse framework. Images show collection objects; they do not represent items in our stock.
Dates and publication
Publication dates identify when a study enters this library. They are separate from the date of manufacture and the museum’s accession date. Entries are released progressively, and future entries are not part of the public library until published.
Research limits
Our catalogue studies are concise reference entries. They use a facts table and focused questions instead of stretching each object into a long buying guide. We do not invent auction prices, service results, provenance, search-engine questions, or claims of hands-on expertise. Directory publication is moderated but does not constitute a certification.
